3D Printing Design Challenges

The combination of generative design methods together with digital manufacturing offers the possibility to improve the quality of the built environment, as well as to drastically reduce the material consumption of buildings and infrastructures.

Concrete 3D printing (3DCP) has recently emerged as one of the most investigated processes of digital fabrication in architecture, with a strong focus on materials and robotics. Yet, the complexity of buildings requires the integration of this technology in a design workflow.

This workshop, organized by the Chair "Materials Science for Sustainable Construction", aims at studying the design of 3DCP housing structures, embracing material, process, structural optimization and engineering including life cycle analysis.

Fondation des Ponts, along with LafargeHolcim and École des Ponts ParisTech founded the Chair "Materials Science for Sustainable Construction" to nurture education and research on building materials.

Register here!
